Ketel Marte under medical evaluation: The Diamondbacks await results

The star Dominican second baseman, Ketel Marte, has returned to Phoenix to undergo an MRI on his left knee. The news comes after days of uncertainty surrounding the Arizona Diamondbacks, after the player was placed on the restricted list for what was initially classified as a personal matter.

Marte, a cornerstone in the team’s offense and defense, has been dealing with joint discomfort since the series played in early August against the San Diego Padres. Despite trying to stay on the field, a recent movement aggravated the condition, forcing the organization to take preventive measures to safeguard the health of the 32-year-old player.

A critical moment for Arizona

The Dominican player’s situation became evident last Monday, when he was removed from the lineup just 20 minutes before the start of the game against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Torey Lovullo admitted the complexity of the situation, highlighting the difficulty of managing the absence of a key figure in the midst of the fight for the National League Wild Card spots.

It has been a complicated day. We are working to gain clarity on his physical condition and determine the steps to follow for his recovery. Ketel’s health is our absolute priority in this final stretch of the season.

Impact on the season

With a 66-60 record, the Diamondbacks find themselves in a decisive phase where every victory is fundamental. Marte’s absence adds extra pressure to the team, given the performance the second baseman has exhibited during this campaign:

  • Offensive production: Maintains a .760 OPS.
  • Batting power: Has hit 21 home runs this season.
  • Strategic role: He is a benchmark of experience and leadership within the Arizona clubhouse.

For now, the management led by Mike Hazen is awaiting the results of the medical exams. The MRI will be the determining factor in knowing if there is a structural injury or if the Dominican player will be able to rejoin the team after a brief period of rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Arizona will have to adjust its offensive rotation to cover the significant absence of its star second baseman.
