PLD analyzes PISA test results amid concerns over the national education system
The Secretary General of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Johnny Pujols, has described the recent results obtained by the Dominican Republic in the PISA tests as extremely concerning. Faced with this scenario, the political organization has launched a detailed technical evaluation of the current state of education in the country.
Pujols reported that the party’s technical team, under the coordination of Zoraima Cuello, is rigorously examining educational indicators. The objective of this analysis is to thoroughly understand the factors that have influenced student performance before the organization issues a formal institutional position.

Academic performance under the microscope
The concern of political leadership arises in a context of national debate regarding the quality of education. PISA 2025 data reveal significant challenges in fundamental areas for the cognitive development of Dominican students:
- Mathematics: A decrease was recorded, going from 360 points in 2022 to 339 points in 2025.
- Reading: The score dropped from 351 to 346 points.
- Science: This represents the only area with progress, managing to rise from 339 points in 2022 to 361 in the most recent evaluation.
Although he was asked about the possible recommendations and corrective measures that the PLD would propose to reverse this trend, Pujols preferred to remain cautious. The leader reiterated that any official proposal will be communicated once the technical analysis process currently being carried out by the party’s specialists is concluded.
