Peru and the United States strengthen strategic alliance against organized crime
The fight against transnational crime in Peruvian territory has received a significant boost through a strategic alliance with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The General Commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), Óscar Arriola, recently confirmed the formalization of an agreement designed to dismantle criminal gangs that operate beyond national borders.
Technical and operational cooperation
This cooperation agreement, which has been in the works for months, includes a series of key benefits for Peruvian law enforcement, focused on modernization and operational efficiency. Among the main components are:
- Supply of cutting-edge technology and high-level logistical support.
- Specialized training programs for PNP agents.
- Implementation of biometric tools to strengthen border and penitentiary control.
- Donation of specialized equipment for explosive detection at the Jorge Chávez International Airport.
This alliance represents a fundamental step in our cooperation to confront transnational organized crime, through specialized investigation and intelligence sharing, consolidating tangible results for the security of Peruvian and American citizens.
The U.S. ambassador, Bernie Navarro, reiterated Washington’s commitment to this matter, highlighting that joint work will be relentless against criminal organizations that threaten regional stability, including criminal structures with international reach.
Focus on regional security
Peruvian authorities have emphasized that the central objective of this collaboration is the dismantling of criminal gangs that have established their bases in the country. The Minister of the Interior has scheduled high-level meetings with diplomatic representatives from the United States to finalize the details of the strategies that will be implemented immediately.
For its part, the current administration, under the presidency of Keiko Fujimori, has shown a clear openness toward strengthening ties with the United States, aligning itself with the regional security policies promoted by the White House. This approach seeks not only the direct combat of crime, but also the defense of common interests in a context of reinforced international cooperation.
