Jorge Asjana David: The unwavering commitment to teaching at the UASD

The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Jorge Asjana David, has reaffirmed his educational vocation by remaining active in the classroom. Despite the demanding responsibilities that come with leading the Primada de América, the professor continues to carry out his pedagogical work with the same passion that has characterized him for decades.

Currently, Dr. Asjana David teaches the courses of Surgical Semiology and Head and Neck Anatomy. This practice allows him not only to transmit his technical knowledge, but also to share the experiences accumulated over more than 30 years of professional and academic career, maintaining a close bond with the student body.

Teaching constitutes an essential part of my academic life. Maintaining direct contact with students allows me to continue contributing to their education and remain linked to the essence of the university.

Jorge Asjana David, Rector of the UASD

A career forged in the classrooms

Asjana David’s history with the institution began in 1979, when he started his journey as a monitor. Since then, he has consolidated an uninterrupted career dedicated to teaching and the strengthening of higher education in the Dominican Republic. For the rector, balancing administrative management with teaching is a fundamental pillar for understanding the real needs of the university community.

This practice, which combines institutional leadership with direct interaction in the classroom, seeks to foster several key objectives for the country’s academic development:

  • Preserve the formative essence of the UASD.
  • Provide professional guidance based on direct experience.
  • Strengthen the bond between university authorities and the student body.
  • Actively contribute to the professional development of new generations.

By remaining a teacher, Rector Asjana David sends a clear message about the importance of not losing sight of the university’s fundamental principles: to teach, to train, and to contribute to the intellectual progress of the nation.
