Persio Checo celebrates four decades of art at the Banreservas Cultural Center Santiago
The Banreservas Cultural Center in Santiago opened its doors to the exhibition “Organic and Casual,” a retrospective that pays tribute to the prolific career of Dominican visual artist Persio Checo. The exhibition offers a journey through more than 40 years of creation, highlighting the evolution of a fundamental reference of the 80s Generation in the country.
The exhibition stands out for its deep connection to nature, the marine environment, and the identity of Río San Juan, the artist’s place of origin. Through a careful selection of paintings and sculptures, Checo manages to integrate elements such as wood, fabric, and masonite to bring to life organic forms that evoke both the Caribbean landscape and the ancestral Taíno heritage.
A dialogue between matter and memory
Gladialisa Pereyra, manager of the Banreservas Cultural Center in Santiago, highlighted during the inauguration the importance of this event as a bridge between artistic legacy and the contemporary public. “This exhibition represents a celebration of life in all its manifestations and a tribute to the capacity of art to reinvent the world,” she noted.

About Persio Checo’s career
- Education: Graduate of the National School of Fine Arts and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), with specializations in Spain and Brazil.
- Style: His visual language fuses influences of surrealism and Land Art, always prioritizing organic elements.
- Awards: He has been awarded the Public Prize at the XII National Biennial of Visual Arts and the Grand Prize of the III Paleta del Níquel Biennial.
The curation and museography of this retrospective have been led by Guadalupe Casasnovas, with cultural consulting by Abil Peralta Agüero.
