Selena Gomez and her mother face federal lawsuit for alleged fraud at Wondermind
Renowned artist Selena Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, have been the target of a federal lawsuit filed in the state of Delaware. The legal conflict revolves around Wondermind, the platform dedicated to mental wellness that both co-founded in 2022 alongside entrepreneur Daniella Pierson.
The entities Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, responsible for filing the lawsuit, state that they have injected more than 1.2 million dollars into the project. According to the plaintiffs, this investment was made under premises that exaggerated the company’s potential, operating conditions, and real growth prospects.
Operational irregularities and unfulfilled promises
The documents filed with the court maintain that the founders omitted critical information regarding the company’s financial health. Among the key points of the accusation are:
- The lack of specificity regarding various initiatives originally announced as pillars of the business.
- The absence of development of the mobile application that was supposed to be the technological core of the project.
- The failure to fulfill promotional commitments by Selena Gomez, who was supposedly meant to boost the brand through her influence on social media and public appearances.
Investors argue that the company was presented as a solid structure capable of generating profitability, a reality that, they allege, was far from the internal operational problems the organization was facing.
Financial crisis and internal tensions
This judicial landscape is not the first setback for Wondermind. Previously, the company had already been the subject of public scrutiny following reports indicating a significant reduction in its workforce and accumulated debts to suppliers and independent contractors. The plaintiffs claim to have understood the magnitude of the financial crisis only last year, following the release of detailed reports on the firm’s internal situation.
The court file also sheds light on alleged personal friction between Selena Gomez and her mother. It is alleged that these conflicts caused the singer to distance herself from the platform, hindering the project’s operations. In the documented communications, it is noted that when investors questioned the destination of the funds, management was referred directly to the artist’s legal team, complicating transparent communication with the capital partners.
