Confrontation in Santiago: One alleged criminal dies and another is injured following robbery with homicide

An intense police operation in the Cerro Alto sector, in Santiago, culminated in the killing of an alleged criminal and the capture of his accomplice, both linked to a violent robbery that resulted in the death of a person in Jacagua al Medio during the early hours of this Sunday.

The National Police reported that the deceased was identified as 36-year-old Collin Joseph Garry. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Luis Jean was injured during the exchange of gunfire and is currently in police custody receiving medical attention.

Event details

The confrontation was triggered when agents from the Sub-directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) located the suspects in the area known as El Hoyo de Cerro Alto. According to the preliminary report, the individuals attempted to evade the authorities and opened fire on the agents, who repelled the aggression.

Following the incident, the authorities seized the following evidence:

  • A Bersa brand pistol, 9 millimeter caliber, serial number 021119.
  • A pellet gun, PFM16 brand, without a serial number.
  • Various casings and capsules that are being analyzed by the Scientific Police.

Investigations indicate that the defendants allegedly broke into a residence in Jacagua al Medio, where they assaulted those present and took the life of Ramón de León Pérez, alias Neo, who worked as security at the property.

The law enforcement institution continues with intelligence efforts to locate a third individual involved in this incident, known only by the alias Sonson. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with police investigators, is working to determine the degree of responsibility of those involved and to clarify the details of this tragic event that has left the Santiago community in shock.
