Political figures honor the memory and legacy of Andrés “Licho” Matos
The National Congress was the scene this Thursday of the funeral honors dedicated to Andrés “Licho” Matos, a former deputy and prominent political leader. During the ceremony, various personalities highlighted his invaluable vocation for service, his career in communications, and his fundamental role in strengthening Dominican democracy.
Senator Moisés Ayala expressed his sorrow at the passing of Matos, highlighting his close connection to the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). “We deeply regret the death of a great leader of our organization, who served as head of communications since our founding,” stated Ayala, describing the passing as a significant loss for the entire political class.
A man of service and humility
Speaking of Licho fills me with deep pride for his friendship. He was a unique human being, a man with an extraordinary vocation for service, but, above all, a good man.

Vásquez Martínez highlighted Matos’s authenticity, noting that despite the high positions he held, he never lost his essence or his closeness to the community. He recalled that he was a consistent man, dedicated to social causes and the best interests of the country, always maintaining a close bond with his roots.
Benchmark in communication and politics
For his part, Alianza País deputy Pedro Martínez emphasized that the communicator facet was the axis that defined a large part of Matos’ professional and political life. “Fundamentally, Licho has been a communicator throughout his life, a political militant with key responsibilities in that area,” he pointed out.

- He was the first national secretary of Communications for the PRM.
- His trajectory included a tireless fight for the country’s democratic values.
Before his arrival at Congress, Matos’ remains received tribute at the National District City Hall. Subsequently, the funeral procession moved to the PRM National House for a special tribute organized by the Communications Secretariat of said party.
The leader’s remains will be buried this Thursday afternoon at the Cristo Redentor Cemetery, marking the end of a life dedicated to public service and the institutional strengthening of the Dominican Republic.
