Strengthening school infrastructure: MINERD adds more than 1,200 new classrooms
The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) has taken a significant step in preparing for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. The institution confirmed the incorporation of more than 1,200 new classrooms into the national education system, the result of an ambitious program for the expansion and rescue of physical infrastructure throughout the Dominican territory.
These actions, coordinated through the Directorate of School Infrastructure (DIE), seek to guarantee dignified and functional spaces for the educational community. In addition to the new constructions, the agency maintains an operational deployment focused on the corrective maintenance of 1,342 school campuses, ensuring that the facilities meet the necessary standards for the teaching-learning process.
Ambitious goals for the start of the school year
MINERD’s projection is to reach a total of 1,500 new classrooms before the official start of classes. Currently, various educational centers are in their final stage of intervention, with deliveries scheduled for the coming days.
Under the direction of engineer Roberto Herrera, the strategic planning contemplates important milestones for the month of August:
- Active execution in 94 educational facilities with delivery dates set for August.
- Projected addition of 762 additional classrooms during this month to expand system capacity.
- Prioritization of the completion of pending works to ensure school enrollment.
These works are part of the actions promoted by the Government of President Luis Abinader and the administration of the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, aimed at strengthening school infrastructure and improving conditions for students and teachers.
With these measures, educational authorities reaffirmed their commitment to optimizing the physical conditions of the centers, seeking to ensure that the start of the next school year has the adequate infrastructure to house the student population nationwide.
