National Police agents managed to catch a 48-year-old man in the act while he was inside the Cibao Regional Oncology Institute. The individual was caught with a significant amount of medical documents that, according to preliminary investigations, are allegedly fake.

The detainee, identified as Elvi de Jesús Tolentino Arroyo, was intercepted during a joint operation carried out by the Property Crimes Investigation Section and members of the Preventive Police, under the jurisdiction of the Plaza Valerio Detachment.

Seized evidence

  • 125 medical documents seized.
  • Forms from various health centers.
  • Medical prescriptions with stamps and orders.

The spokesperson for the law enforcement institution in Santiago, Fiordaliza Popa Arias, detailed that among the seized material are various forms and prescriptions intended for patients that present irregularities in their authenticity.

The National Police is keeping an exhaustive investigation open to determine the objective behind the possession of these documents and whether they were being used to commit crimes or fraud within healthcare centers in the region.

Tolentino Arroyo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes. Judicial authorities will be in charge of deepening the investigations to clarify the scope of this illicit activity and proceed with the necessary coercive measures.
