Leones del Escogido present their coaching staff for the 2026-27 LIDOM season
The Leones del Escogido have made official the coaching staff that will accompany manager Ramón Santiago in the search for a new title during the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) campaign. The capital city team is betting on continuity, while integrating strategic figures to strengthen its competitiveness on the field.
Continuity in the coaching staff
The operational structure of the scarlets maintains key pieces that have been fundamental to the franchise’s recent successes. Ronny Paulino will continue at the helm as bench coach, while Jorge Mejía remains as hitting instructor and Hatuey Mendoza continues in charge of pitching. For his part, Charlie Valerio repeats as assistant to the manager for the second consecutive year.
The coaching staff at the bases and bullpen is completed with trusted names:
- Guadalupe Jabalera: First base coach.
- Héctor De la Cruz: Third base coach.
- Roberto Girón: Bullpen coach.
- Renny Pérez: Bullpen catcher.
- Ramón Lubo, Juan Mota and Alex Germán: Support coaches.
In addition, significant internal promotions have been made: José Miguel Mendoza assumes the role of quality control coach, Wagner Ramírez will be an assistant to the coaching staff, and Sammy Apolinar will provide support from the bullpen.
New faces and specialization
The organization has added specialized talent to enhance the development of its players. Edwin Beard joins as offensive coordinator, bringing his vast experience with the New York Yankees organization. Likewise, former player Pedro López returns to the team as infield instructor, contributing his historic knowledge with the red jersey.
The pitching staff adds Eddy Ramos as an assistant, while Iván Mercedes will lead the integration of analytics and mental skills on the field. A notable move is the creation of the Competitive Strategy Department, led by American Perry Husband, a benchmark in innovation and the study of “Effective Velocity”.
Perry Husband’s integration seeks to transform advanced information into direct competitive advantages, applying science and analytics to optimize the interaction between pitchers and batters on the diamond.
Start of the season
The scarlet fanbase already has the start date marked on their calendar. The 2026-27 autumn-winter season will kick off on Friday, October 16, with the exciting matchup between the Leones del Escogido and the Tigres del Licey at the Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal.
