Las Leñeras de Los Mina crowned champions of the 2026 Women’s TBS
In an exciting finish, the Leñeras de Los Mina claimed the title of champions of the II Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Women’s 2026) of Santo Domingo. The team managed to prevail 89-86 against the Caribes de Santo Domingo Norte in the third and decisive game of the final series.
Under the strategic leadership of Sports Immortal Matilde Guerrero, the Leñeras managed to come back in the series by winning two consecutive games, sealing a 2-1 aggregate score in this final stage. The venue that hosted this outcome was the Virgilio Frías club sports center, located in Ensanche Isabelita, Santo Domingo East.
Total dominance of Los Mina
With this triumph, the Los Mina club reaffirms its hegemony in the Santo Domingo Province Basketball Association (Abasado), by winning both the men’s and women’s titles in the same season, under the management of its president, Sports Immortal Víctor Hansen.
Featured performances
The attack of the new monarchs was led by the U22 reinforcement, Karla Aquino, who recorded a stellar performance with 28 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Alongside her, Naomi Cuevas contributed 22 points and seven rebounds, consolidating a lethal duo that combined for 50 total points. The collective effort was supported by:
- Nayelis Morillo: 17 points and nine assists.
- Patricia Sosa: Double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
- Yanelis Doñé: 10 units.
The depth of our bench and our defensive intensity were key to turning the series around and reaching glory in this highly competitive tournament.
Las Leñeras Coaching Staff
For the Caribes, Angie Hodge shone with a double-double of 37 points and 14 rebounds. Yadira Polanco also stood out with an impressive triple-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, while Brenda Tatis added 13 units to the cause.
Tournament details
The 2026 edition of the Women’s TBS was dedicated to the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and was played for the Seaboard “Clean Energy” Cup. The trophy presentation was led by William Cabral Lugo, president of Abasado, along with congresswoman Patricia Núñez, who headed the Organizing Committee. The clubs Calero, Los Mina, Caribes, and Cotorras participated in this edition.
