Pitching restructuring: The Angels announce changes to their coaching staff
The Los Angeles Angels organization has begun a transformation process in its pitching staff. This Tuesday, the team made official the departure of three key figures in the pitching area: head coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Dom Chiti, and assistant instructor Darryl Scott.
In light of these departures, management has provisionally appointed Tim Leveque as pitching coach, while Michael Wuertz will assume bullpen responsibilities on an interim basis. These moves seek to provide a new direction for the franchise’s pitcher development program.
Future-focused decisions
John Mozeliak, baseball operations consultant for the Angels, was in charge of communicating the decisions after holding strategic conversations with manager Kurt Suzuki. According to the front office, the goal is to evaluate current performance and strengthen the pitching system by taking advantage of the seven weeks remaining in the regular season.

New instructor profiles
- Tim Leveque: Joined the organization this year after an extensive two-decade career with the St. Louis Cardinals, most recently serving as the Double-A pitching coach with Rocket City.
- Michael Wuertz: Has solid experience within the institution, currently in his eleventh campaign with the Angels, where he served as assistant pitching coordinator in the minor leagues.
With these modifications, the Angels’ management seeks to implement a more efficient structure that allows for evaluating available talent and preparing the ground for the upcoming Major League seasons.
