Korea dominates Dominican Republic in the U-17 Women’s Volleyball World Championship
The South Korean national team achieved an important victory this Monday by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1 in the Girls’ U17 Volleyball World Championship, which is being held on Chilean soil. With this result, the Asian team adds its fourth victory in the tournament, while the Dominican team, led by the stellar former player Priscila Rivera, places its record at 1-3 within Group D.
The match was decided with partials of 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, and 25-17, in a duel where blocking effectiveness and defensive solidity were the keys for the winners.
Outstanding offensive performance
Despite the setback, the Dominican offense featured outstanding individual performances. Ryni Mondesí led the national attack with a total of 23 points, followed by Leandry Almonte, who added 15 units to the Creole cause. Likewise, Shanty Pérez contributed 10 points and Rosaris Peña added seven points, also standing out for her defensive work as a libero.
On the winners’ side, Son Seaoyon equaled Mondesí’s mark with 23 points, supported by the work of Suin with 14 points and Minseo Eo with 12.
The Dominican squad showed character in the second set, where they adjusted their defense and managed to level the score, but they could not sustain the pace against the constant pressure and technical display of the Korean team in the final sets.
Next challenge
The Dominican Republic will seek to return to the path of victory this Tuesday. The national team will face its counterpart from Puerto Rico at 5:00 in the afternoon, in a crucial matchup for the aspirations of the local squad in this group stage of the FIVB World Championship.
