Kelvin Cruz boosts Dominican sports with the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the sports sector through the execution of an annual agenda of events. As a central part of this strategy, he highlighted the celebration of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York, an event designed to strengthen the ties between the Dominican diaspora and their nation of origin.

The competition, which will take place from August 14 to 23, will feature the participation of 1,767 athletes competing in 22 different disciplines. According to the official, this event is fundamental to integrating the Dominican community abroad into the national sports calendar.

A comprehensive sports agenda

Since the beginning of his term, Cruz has prioritized the creation of spaces that keep youth away from harmful behaviors, promoting a healthy lifestyle. Among the initiatives that are part of this vision are the Women’s Games, the Border Games, the Easter Games, the Inter-neighborhood Games, and the University Games.

We are developing an agenda to have the opportunity to provide a powerful tool for change to our youth in every corner of the country, so that they have no excuse not to have their minds and bodies occupied with a healthy mind and a healthy body in a sport of their preference.

Rescue and continuity of traditions

Regarding the New York edition, the minister described the event as a rescue process. He acknowledged the fundamental role of figures such as Evaristo Madrigal, Roberto and Chu Vásquez, along with the sports leadership in New York, in the organization of this platform. Cruz emphasized his desire for these games to become a permanent tradition that transcends ministerial administrations.

The main objective is that, regardless of who holds the position of head of Miderec in the future, the sports events calendar remains an immovable State policy, thus guaranteeing the continuity of support for national talent and Dominicans residing abroad.
