INEFI delivers modern covered court at the Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz Polytechnic Institute
The executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), Alberto Rodríguez Mella, led the inauguration this Friday of the new roofed facility at the Instituto Politécnico Profesor Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz, emblematically known as «La Perito». This project, which required an investment of RD$16,170,000.00, will directly benefit more than 800 students and families residing in various sectors of the National District.
The construction responds to the central government’s commitment to strengthen sports infrastructure in educational centers. According to the authorities, these facilities not only encourage athletic practice, but also serve as a shield against violence and a pillar for the development of values and the integral health of Dominican youth.
When we build a roof like this, we are not just erecting a structure of steel and concrete; we are building dreams, opportunities, and hope. Here, athletes will be formed, but above all, citizens with values, discipline, and a sense of community.
Alberto Rodríguez Mella, Executive Director of INEFI
A space for community integration
The new roofing is projected as a strategic meeting point for high-density population communities, including sectors such as Ensanche La Fe, Cristo Rey, Villas Agrícolas, Ensanche Luperón, Villa Juana, and Ensanche Naco. The space will serve to host sports competitions, cultural events, graduations, and various social activities that strengthen the community fabric.
Historical legacy of «La Perito»
The importance of this work becomes even more relevant when considering the trajectory of the Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz Polytechnic, founded on January 6, 1945. Throughout its eight decades of history, the institution has been a benchmark in the country’s technical training, preparing high school graduates in key areas such as Administrative Management, Logistics, Gastronomic Services, and Network Infrastructure.
Prominent figures who have left an indelible mark on national life have walked the halls of “La Perito,” such as:
- Jacobo Majluta Azar, former President of the Republic.
- Freddy Beras-Goico, prominent communicator.
- Aníbal Díaz, educator and sports leader.
- Pedro Jiménez, renowned communications professional.
- Franklin García Fermín, jurist and former Minister of Higher Education.
With this delivery, INEFI reaffirms its vision that every sports court built in an educational center is a direct investment in the future, where sports and education intertwine to positively transform Dominican society.
