Weather forecast: Intense heat and scattered showers this Thursday in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has reported that a predominantly hot environment is expected throughout the national territory for this Thursday. The combination of a trough and the dragging of warm winds is generating scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in specific points of the northeast and southeast regions of the country.
According to the official report, the weather outlook will change during the afternoon due to the approach of a tropical wave. This phenomenon will interact with local conditions, daytime heating, and the orography, which will result in an increase in cloudiness.
Rainfall details
Scattered showers are expected, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms and wind gusts. These conditions will mainly affect the following areas:
- Southeast region.
- Northeast region.
- Central Mountain Range.
- Border zone (where the highest concentrations are expected).
In Greater Santo Domingo, including the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo Norte, Oeste, and Este, the morning will be hot with little cloud cover. However, starting in the afternoon, the sky will become cloudy, giving way to possible precipitation and isolated electrical activity.
Recommendations for extreme heat
Despite the forecasted rains, temperatures will remain high, with maximums ranging between 34 °C and 36 °C, while minimums will stay between 24 °C and 26 °C.
Given this scenario, Indomet reiterates to the public the importance of taking preventive measures, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly:
- Maintain constant hydration by drinking water.
- Wear light-colored, lightweight, and preferably loose-fitting clothing.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours.
Hurricane watch
Internationally, the agency is keeping a low-pressure area located hundreds of kilometers south-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands under strict surveillance. Currently, the system has a 70% probability of cyclonic development both in the next 48 hours and over the course of the next seven days.
