INABIE intensifies supervision in Santiago schools following reports on milk quality
The National Institute of Student Welfare (INABIE) has activated a rigorous oversight protocol in various educational centers in Santiago. This measure comes after incidents were recorded with the supply of school breakfast milk, a product that was rejected in several schools due to concerns regarding its organoleptic conditions and quality standards.
Amalfi Suárez Jiménez, head of Regional 08 of INABIE, confirmed that constant monitoring has been maintained since the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year. The objective is to thoroughly verify both the quality and quantity of the food served in the school breakfast and lunch programs, ensuring that the service complies with current regulations.
Key meeting for definitive solutions
In order to address the situation, the institution has called for a meeting at its headquarters in Santo Domingo. Representatives from the affected educational centers and key stakeholders in the supply chain will participate in this meeting to define immediate corrective actions.

Strict oversight of suppliers
INABIE has been emphatic in pointing out that non-compliance will not be tolerated. Supervision includes surprise visits to schools to evaluate critical aspects such as:
- Nutritional quality and state of preservation of dairy products.
- Compliance with the quantities and portions stipulated in the contracts.
- Verification of storage conditions in educational centers, especially for products that require a cold chain.
Suárez Jiménez warned that supplier companies that do not meet the required standards face severe sanctions, which could lead to their permanent exclusion from the School Feeding Program. As a precedent, the entity recalled that in the previous school cycle several suppliers were removed after irregularities were detected, a process that is carried out in coordination with district directors and specialists in nutrition and quality.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and food safety for the thousands of students in Santiago, ensuring that inspections will be maintained permanently throughout the rest of the academic year.
