Cultural boost: School of Fine Arts inaugurated in Mao

The province of Valverde now has a new epicenter for creative training. The Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, formally inaugurated the Mao Daniel A. Colón School of Fine Arts, a project that seeks to boost young talent and strengthen artistic identity in the region.

This educational center will operate within the facilities of the José Francisco Peña Gómez Municipal Center for Culture, thanks to a strategic alliance established with the Municipal City Council of Mao. The main objective is to offer a professional space where children and adolescents can explore various artistic disciplines.

Decentralization of art in the Dominican Republic

During the opening ceremony, Salcedo emphasized that this initiative is a fundamental pillar within the decentralization policy being executed by the Ministry of Culture. The vision is clear: to democratize access to artistic education and break with the traditional centralization that used to limit these programs to large metropolises like Santo Domingo and Santiago.

This opening represents a decisive step toward bringing cultural education to every corner of the country, ensuring that the youth of Valverde have the same opportunities for creative development as anywhere else in the national territory.

A talent incubator for Valverde

The creation of this educational center not only provides a new academic offering, but also functions as an engine for social transformation. By providing a suitable environment for constant practice, the discovery of new vocations is fostered and the preservation of the community’s cultural legacy is ensured.

The ceremony concluded with a vibrant musical performance by the students of the Mao Municipal Band of Musicians, who enthusiastically celebrated the beginning of this chapter that promises to transform the artistic landscape of the province.
