82 alleged cases of corruption reported in Gustavo Petro’s administration
On a day marked by the National Day against Corruption, the Colombian government has taken a decisive step by presenting a detailed report to the Prosecutor’s Office and various oversight bodies, exposing 82 cases of alleged administrative irregularities. The document, referred to as the “Book of Truth,” was formally submitted with the goal that the competent authorities clarify the management of public funds during the previous administration.
I formally place the White Paper in your hands, with the hope that you will do what is legally appropriate.
Abelardo de la Espriella
What does the Book of Truth include?
The report, which has 135 pages, is the result of an exhaustive process of splicing and documentary review. The cases have been grouped into files that point out possible anomalies in strategic sectors of the State. Among the most critical points that the authorities will have to audit are:
- The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
- The public health system.
- Various state-owned enterprises.
- Social assistance programs.
According to current authorities, the document compiles contracts, administrative agreements, and budgetary decisions that suggest patterns of corruption. The intention of this submission is for the Prosecutor’s Office to analyze whether there are criminal or administrative liabilities derived from these actions.
Transparency and due process
The government has emphasized that this action responds to a citizen demand for clarity regarding the destination of the resources. “The country wants to know what happened, where the resources ended up, and who participated in the possible looting of State funds,” the president stated during the handover ceremony in Bogota.
It is important to highlight that the presentation of this report does not constitute a guilty verdict. Each of the 82 files must follow the corresponding legal course, guaranteeing the right to defense for all those involved. Judicial authorities will be responsible for determining, after a formal investigation, whether the findings presented constitute crimes against public assets.
With this move, the current administration places the management of public resources at the center of the national debate, marking the beginning of a stage of deep review regarding the actions of Gustavo Petro’s administration.
