A historic crossover: Star Wars and Marvel unite in Hope Assembles
The entertainment world is facing one of the most anticipated announcements for pop culture fans. For the first time officially, the universes of Star Wars and Marvel will collide in a limited comic book series titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. This special event, which promises to mark a turning point in the narrative of both franchises, will hit shelves in January 2027.
Project details and plot
The story, which will unfold over five issues, will be set on Earth-616, Marvel’s main continuity. The premise focuses on a reality-altering phenomenon, allowing the heroes of the Marvel universe to witness the events of Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope as they occur on our planet. This will lead iconic figures such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo to join forces with the Avengers, including Captain America, Spider-Man, and Hulk.
The conflict does not fall short on the antagonists’ side, as Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire will face off against Marvel’s most feared villains, such as Thanos and Doctor Doom. The list of confirmed characters is extensive and includes legends like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Wolverine, Black Panther, Professor X, and the beloved droids R2-D2 and C-3PO.
A luxury creative team
The script will be handled by Kevin Smith, a renowned filmmaker and screenwriter with an extensive background in the world of comics. Meanwhile, the visual aspect will be the responsibility of David Marquez, an artist noted for his work on fundamental titles in the industry. According to Smith, this project is the realization of a childhood dream, where he sought to combine the magic of the galactic saga with the intensity of Marvel superheroes.
The most iconic villains from both franchises will meet in one of the comics.
Celebrating 50 years of history
This release is no coincidence, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of George Lucas’s creation. Marvel has pointed out that this crossover was a goal set more than a decade ago, when the company regained the publishing rights to the galactic saga. Michael Siglain, creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing, highlighted that the main goal is to integrate both universes into a coherent and epic continuity.
