Rosario Murillo defends the installation of a monument in honor of Fidel Castro in Nicaragua

Nicaragua’s co-president, Rosario Murillo, responded this Tuesday to the critical voices rejecting the upcoming installation of a sculpture dedicated to the late leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro. The monument is part of the commemorative activities for the centenary of the birth of the Cuban leader, who was born in 1926 and died in 2016.

Among those who crawl, the traitors and cowards, the servile and serfs, the packs, for them, as we know, who always show signs of deep darkness, of evils and malignities, there is no possible pride. They only bite the dust of their own cowardice.

Details of the monumental work

The structure, which is shaping up to be a new landmark in Managua, stands out for its dimensions and design. These are the main features of the project:

  • Height: The full-body figure reaches 13 meters in height.
  • Material: Made entirely of metal.
  • Aesthetics: The main image will be surrounded by ornamental silhouettes of colorful metal trees.
  • Location: It will be placed on the “From Bolívar to Chávez” promenade, specifically on the former Bolívar Avenue, a central axis of the Nicaraguan capital.
  • Surroundings: The monument will be installed within an amusement park, strategically located next to the Ministry of Finance and in front of the Parliament headquarters (National Assembly).

Fidel Castro, a central figure in 20th-century history after leading the 1959 revolution, maintains a legacy that remains a subject of international debate. In the regional context, Nicaragua is consolidating itself as Cuba’s closest political ally in Central America, strengthening its ideological ties through this type of public tribute.
