Commotion in San Sebastian: 14 minors victims of sexual assault by a merchant

The Ertzaintza has managed to identify 14 minors who were victims of sexual assault in the city of San Sebastian, Spain. The alleged perpetrator is a 22-year-old man who operated a candy store in the Amara neighborhood, an establishment he used to commit the criminal acts. The suspect has been in provisional detention since last June.

The beginning of the investigations

The case came to light after the authorities received information about a minor who had allegedly suffered two assaults on June 25 and 26. Thanks to a rapid police intervention, the suspect was arrested on June 30. After appearing before the judicial authorities, his imprisonment was ordered, where he remains while the proceedings continue.

Due to the gravity of the events and the possible existence of a criminal pattern, the Central Criminal Investigation Section of the Ertzaintza (SECIC) took over the case on July 8. This unit, specialized in crimes against sexual freedom, has analyzed testimonies and evidence linking the detainee to multiple incidents.

Case details and timeline

  • The victims were between 10 and 18 years old at the time of the events.
  • The complaints cover a period of approximately six years, with the first cases dating back to 2020.
  • There is one case recorded during the suspect’s period of minority, which was referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
  • Investigators have confirmed that the cases share common elements in the perpetrator’s modus operandi.

The investigation remains open with the goal of clarifying all the facts, determining possible additional connections, and ensuring justice for all affected individuals.

Call for citizen collaboration

Given the possibility that the number of victims may be higher, the Basque authorities have urged the population to cooperate. Anyone who has experienced a similar situation with the suspect is requested to come forward to the authorities, even if the events occurred several years ago and were not previously reported.

To file reports or provide relevant information, citizens can communicate through the 112 emergency number or go in person to any Ertzaintza police station. The authorities remain committed to protecting the identity of the victims and advancing this judicial process with rigor.
