David Armando Brito extradited to the United States for drug trafficking
In a high-level coordinated operation, the Attorney General’s Office and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in collaboration with United States federal agencies, carried out the extradition of a Dominican citizen linked to an international criminal network. David Armando Brito Brito, known as “El Jamaquen,” was transported under strict security measures from Las Américas International Airport (AILA) bound for Puerto Rico, where he must appear before the U.S. justice system.
The surrender of Brito Brito was made possible thanks to the strategic support of the United States Marshals Service, the DEA, and the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service. The defendant faces serious charges including the formation of criminal organizations, conspiracy for the massive importation of cocaine, illegal possession of firearms, and crimes related to money laundering.
Operation PT7: The strike against the criminal network
The capture of “El Jamaquen” was the direct result of the so-called “Operation PT7,” executed last May. In said deployment, Dominican authorities carried out more than 30 simultaneous raids in key points of the country, specifically in the National District, Santo Domingo East, and the province of La Altagracia.
The extradition of Brito Brito, authorized under decree 346-26, reaffirms the commitment of the Dominican authorities in the fight against transnational crime and mutual cooperation with international agencies to dismantle structures dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering.
This procedure underscores the effectiveness of constant information exchange between the Dominican Republic and the United States, mechanisms that have been fundamental in capturing fugitives wanted for high-risk crimes, including murder, fraud, and illicit drug trafficking activities. With this transfer, the U.S. judicial system assumes jurisdiction over the case to prosecute the charges pending against the Dominican citizen.
