Francisco Domínguez Brito clarifies the judicial process of Santiago Matías
Political leader and former Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Domínguez Brito, recently addressed the case related to Santiago Matías, clearing up doubts regarding the removal of a judicial record from the businessman and communicator’s history. During his participation in the program Una Nueva Mañana, the former official was emphatic in denying that such a decision was the product of any favor or political interest.
Domínguez Brito contextualized the situation by explaining that, at the time the legal process took place, Matías was a young resident of Capotillo who did not yet have the public profile or the influence he possesses today in the media.
The stigmatization of youth in vulnerable sectors
The former attorney general shared a reflection on his social work in vulnerable neighborhoods, highlighting that during his tenure he worked closely with young people from areas such as Capotillo. According to studies from that time, nearly 90% of the youth in those sectors had faced police detention at least once.
I assume with great responsibility that I complied with a sentence and that I did the right thing.
Francisco Domínguez Brito
Domínguez Brito described this phenomenon as a stigmatization of poverty, pointing out that many of these detentions were resolved informally through the payment of small sums of money, which affected the future of young people without a solid legal basis.
Compliance with a court judgment
Regarding the removal of Santiago Matías’ criminal record, the politician clarified the key points of his actions:
- The measure was not a response to political favors, as the young man was not a public figure at that time.
- The action was the direct result of a court ruling that ordered the authorities to proceed with the removal of the record.
- The former attorney general reaffirmed that his duty was to execute a decision issued by the courts.
Finally, Domínguez Brito acknowledged that, over the years, he developed a friendship with Matías. However, he remained firm in his position of taking responsibility for every action taken during his public administration, wishing the communicator success and expressing his hope that he maintains the necessary discernment to distinguish between correct actions and those that should not be carried out.
