Claribel de Jesús’ family demands justice after two years of judicial stagnation

More than two years after the tragic passing of Claribel de Jesús in Villa Altagracia, her family members have raised their voices on Alofoke Deportes to denounce the judicial paralysis surrounding her case. What began as a violent robbery on June 24, 2024, has turned into a nightmare of constant postponements, preventing the family from finding peace or answers from the authorities.

Nathanael Valdepina, the victim’s husband and an eyewitness to the event, recounted how they were intercepted by four individuals on motorcycles while they were heading to a park. According to his testimony, the aggression was direct: after being threatened, the attackers struck their motorcycle, causing a fatal fall for Claribel, who passed away after fighting for 12 days in intensive care.

When they hit my engine I lost control and fell to the pavement. That is where Claribel fell.

A process marked by impunity and a lack of answers

Ramón Antonio de Jesús, the young woman’s father, has traveled a path of frustration over the last 25 months. With monthly visits to the Prosecutor’s Office, the father asserts that the system only offers delays, which hinders the possibility of bringing those responsible before a judge to request the maximum penalty of 30 years.

  • The father reports that, despite having identified two of the alleged attackers, the process is not moving forward.
  • A hearing was reported to have been moved to San Cristóbal without proper notification to the affected family.
  • There is video evidence that, according to the family, shows the pursuit by the motorcycles involved in the incident.

Serious allegations against local leaders

The case has taken a worrying turn following the report of alleged pressure. Claribel’s father pointed to a local political leader, identified as Daniel Miguel, for attempting to influence his testimony to divert attention from those truly responsible. Furthermore, direct threats against the family’s son were reported, which forced his relocation out of Villa Altagracia for security reasons.

I ask you, please, to seek justice for my daughter. They stole my life.

From Alofoke Deportes, a call is made to the competent authorities to resume the case with the seriousness it deserves. The family insists that they are not seeking revenge, but rather the enforcement of the law to prevent institutional neglect from eroding citizen trust in the Dominican justice system.
