Blow to drug trafficking: Marijuana plantations dismantled in mountainous area of Azua
In a strategic operation carried out in the highlands of the Peralta municipality, Azua province, Dominican authorities managed to dismantle two plantations of alleged marijuana, seizing a total of 10,884 plants. This operation represents a major blow to the structures dedicated to illicit cultivation in the southern region of the country.
The operation was coordinated by the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) with the support of the Public Ministry. To ensure the success of the incursion into the mountainous terrain, tactical support was provided by special teams from the National Police, the Dominican Republic Navy, and the Dominican Republic Air Force.
Findings details
- 5,364 marijuana plants in the development stage were counted.
- 5,520 additional plants that were in the germination process were located.
- Tools, equipment, and various materials intended for the processing and packaging of the substance were confiscated.
The authorities indicated that the magnitude of the discovery suggests an organized structure dedicated to large-scale production in this difficult-to-access area. During the intervention, a woman was arrested, who is now in the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to face the corresponding legal proceedings.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to eradicate the cultivation and trafficking of controlled substances in the rural and mountainous areas of the province, reaffirming the security forces’ commitment to public peace.
