Delcy Rodríguez reports on the release of 1,046 people in Venezuela
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, offered an official report this Monday regarding the release process taking place in the country. According to the figures presented, a total of 1,046 Venezuelans have regained their freedom since January 2026, a period during which a program focused on democratic coexistence was launched following the political events recorded at the beginning of the year in Caracas.
During her message to the nation, Rodríguez highlighted that, in addition to the direct releases, approximately 12,000 citizens have benefited from procedural measures. The president emphasized that the Executive will maintain its commitment to advance responsibly in the review of the judicial and penitentiary system.
As a result of the Democratic Coexistence and Peace Program, to date 1,046 Venezuelans have been released, 12,000 people have received procedural benefits, and we will continue to move forward with responsibility.

International cooperation and prison system reforms
Within the government plans, an alliance has been formalized with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The main objective is to oversee the conditions of detention centers, a request that had been reiterated for months by non-governmental organizations and the detainees’ families. Rodríguez assured that this collaboration seeks to show the international community the progress and improvements implemented in the management of Venezuelan prisons.
The landscape of prisoner releases has been constant since the political transition in January. In February, Parliament approved an amnesty law that impacted nearly 8,000 citizens, many of whom were already under restricted freedom regimes.
Figures after the recent dialogues
The latest release sessions, which took place in mid-August, occurred following the conclusion of the first cycle of dialogue between Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Parliament, and former opposition deputy Dinorah Figuera. Regarding these actions, various assessments have been presented:
- Venezuelan government: Reported the release of 131 people.
- Foro Penal: Organization that has verified the release of 81 citizens.
- Unitary Platform: Estimates the figure at 105 people released.
Finally, the acting president addressed issues of citizen security, committing to eliminate police checkpoints in urban areas, which have been the subject of complaints for alleged extortion, and promised to implement patrol protocols that are more respectful of human rights.
