Active surveillance: Indomet monitors two tropical systems in the Atlantic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has intensified its monitoring of a low-pressure area located in the central Atlantic, which shows significant potential for cyclonic development. According to technical reports, this phenomenon has a 60% probability of evolution within the next 48 hours, a figure that rises to 80% when projected over a seven-day period.
Meteorologist Claudio Amparo pointed out that this behavior is common at this stage of the hurricane season. Additionally, the agency reported on the movement of a new tropical wave that has emerged from the African coast, which, although it maintains a low development potential of 10% for the moment, is being closely monitored by the authorities.
It is normal for these systems to start forming in this area of the Atlantic by this time of year.

Green alert in Greater Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal
Immediately, current weather conditions, influenced by the combination of a tropical wave and a trough, have caused downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in various regions. Given this scenario, Indomet has established green alert levels for the following demarcations:
- Greater Santo Domingo (including the National District)
- San Cristóbal Province
The green alert constitutes a preventive call for citizens to stay informed and attentive to the evolution of weather conditions, especially those residents in areas vulnerable to urban flooding or flash floods.
Forecast for the next few hours
For the rest of the national territory, the agency forecasts the occurrence of scattered precipitation, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and wind gusts during the night and early morning hours. These rains will be concentrated with greater intensity in:
- Eastern plains provinces
- Northeast slope
- Caribbean coastal littoral
- Sectors of the Central mountain range
