Tropical wave and trough will cause significant rainfall in the Dominican Republic
The combination of a tropical wave and a trough will generate a notable increase in rainfall over much of the national territory this Thursday. According to meteorological reports from Alofoke Deportes, moderate to heavy downpours are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional wind gusts throughout the day.
Since the early morning hours, rain with thunderstorms has been reported in the northeast and southeast regions. As the day progresses, the effects of these atmospheric phenomena will intensify, affecting provinces such as La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Espaillat, Santiago, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, San Juan, San Cristóbal, and Monseñor Nouel, including various sectors of Greater Santo Domingo.
Alerts for potential flooding
Given the soil saturation and the amount of water expected, authorities are maintaining active weather alert and warning levels. There is a latent risk of flooding in rivers, streams, and creeks, as well as the possibility of landslides and urban flooding in the areas under warning.
- Provinces on alert: Hato Mayor, Valverde, Monte Plata, La Altagracia, La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís.
- Provinces on watch: San Juan and Greater Santo Domingo.
Hot environment and recommendations
Despite the rains, the environment will remain humid and hot, with a high heat index that requires special attention from the public.
The population is advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. High-risk groups, such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly, should remain in cool, ventilated places.
Extended forecast
For this Friday, although the tropical wave will begin to move away, instability will persist due to residual moisture. Moderate downpours are expected during the afternoon, focused on the northeast, northwest, southwest regions, and the Central Mountain Range. On the other hand, a decrease in rainfall is expected on Saturday due to the arrival of Saharan dust and the influence of an anticyclonic system, limiting precipitation to isolated downpours in specific parts of the country.
