ONEC supports Customs actions against smuggling at Caucedo Multimodal Port
The National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC) expressed its firm support for the recent operations carried out by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) in conjunction with the Public Ministry. These actions allowed for the interception of goods that were intended to enter the country irregularly through the Caucedo Multimodal Port, thus preventing tax evasion exceeding 42 million Dominican pesos.
The business association highlighted the fundamental role played by the new intelligence and surveillance mechanisms implemented by the authorities. According to the ONEC analysis, this strengthening of controls is vital to detect operations linked to illicit trade and ensure that all imports strictly comply with current tax and customs regulations.
Fiscal impact details
Customs authorities detailed that the value of the avoided import taxes and duties amounts to a total of RD$42,254,853.26. This amount is broken down as follows:
- Main container: RD$32,179,370.00 in taxes.
- Second container: RD$10,075,483.26 in taxes.
