Trough keeps the National District and five provinces on green alert
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued a green alert notice for the National District and five provinces of the Dominican territory, due to the incidence of a trough that is generating atmospheric instability conditions. This meteorological phenomenon will favor the occurrence of rain in various areas of the country throughout this Tuesday.
The areas under official surveillance are Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, San Juan, Azua, Barahona, and the National District. According to the agency, there is a latent probability of urban flooding in these locations due to the accumulation of rainfall.
Details of the meteorological phenomenon
According to the COE technical report, the trough is located in the middle and upper levels of the troposphere. This atmospheric configuration will cause the following effects:
- Periods of constant cloudiness.
- Moderate intensity downpours.
- Thunderstorm activity.
- Occasional wind gusts.
Given these conditions, the agency recommends that the population in areas under alert avoid crossing rivers, streams, and creeks, as well as stay away from areas vulnerable to flooding.
