Operations in the Eastern region: 41 heavy vehicles inspected for traffic violations
In a joint effort to improve road safety and traffic management, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) and the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) carried out an enforcement operation that resulted in the sanctioning of 41 heavy vehicle drivers. The measure responds to the non-compliance with Resolution 003-2026, which explicitly prohibits these types of units from driving in the left lane on the country’s highways.
Strategic points intervened
The supervision day focused on six critical points in the Eastern region, identified by the authorities as areas with the highest incidence of accidents. The operations covered the following locations:
- Juan Carlos Bridge, on Las Américas Highway.
- Juan Dolio Bridge, on the Eastern Highway (Autovía del Este).
- La Romana Toll, on the Coral Highway (Autovía del Coral).
- Coral 1 (Bayahíbe) and Coral 2 (Higüey) tolls.
- Coral Highway (Autovía del Coral), on the section leading up to the Punta Cana roundabout.
Clear rules for cargo transport
The current regulations are precise: trucks, tractor-trailers, and any heavy cargo vehicles are required to travel exclusively in the right lane. Drivers who ignore this provision and are caught driving in the left lane will face a financial penalty of RD$10,000.
These actions are part of a comprehensive plan designed to ensure that traffic laws are respected, thereby reducing risk factors on our highways and roads.
Expansion of measures at the national level
Although these interventions began in the eastern zone of the Dominican territory, the authorities of Alofoke Deportes have confirmed that the surveillance operations will be progressively extended to the entire country. The main objective is to reduce traffic accidents and promote a culture of regulatory compliance among heavy cargo operators, contributing to safer circulation for all citizens.
