Alleged murderer dies after confrontation with DICRIM agents in Sabana Perdida
A man identified as Geraldo Selmo Heredia, known in the criminal underworld by the alias “Jerry,” passed away while receiving medical assistance after being involved in a shootout with agents from the Regional Sub-directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) in the Sabana Perdida sector, Santo Domingo Norte.
The individual was actively sought by the authorities, who held an arrest warrant (RAJ-2026-03595) for his alleged involvement in a homicide case. According to police records, Heredia was identified as the primary person responsible for the murder of Joel de Jesús Familia, alias “Respira,” which occurred on March 12 in Villa Mella.
Criminal and police operational history
In addition to the homicide charge, “Jerry” was also held responsible for causing gunshot wounds to three people identified as Luz María Lugo, Fabio Ariel Frías, and Albert Acosta, in previous violent incidents recorded in the Sabana Perdida area.
The operation that culminated in the suspect’s death occurred when investigative units located Heredia traveling in a gray Honda Civic vehicle, license plate A982919, on Cachón Street, near Los Restauradores Avenue.
Upon noticing the presence of the officers, the man got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the uniformed personnel, forcing the members of DICRIM to repel the aggression in self-defense.

Following the exchange of gunfire, Heredia was seriously wounded and was immediately transported to a nearby health center, where the doctors on duty confirmed his death shortly after his admission.
At the scene of the confrontation, the officers managed to seize the firearm used by the deceased. It is a Smith & Wesson brand pistol, model 5904, with serial number 3456, which has been sent to the ballistics laboratories for the corresponding analyses.
The authorities have reiterated that the investigations remain open with the goal of clarifying all the details of the event and delving into the criminal records for which the deceased was wanted by the Dominican justice system.
