Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons: Dominating the League

In the world of American football, rivalry and respect often coexist, especially among elite players. Myles Garrett, Browns star, and Micah Parsons, a key figure for the Packers, exemplify this dynamic. Both players, considered among the best in their position, have made their mark on the league, and Garrett did not hesitate to express his opinion on his place in history.

I think we’re two of the best. We’re two of the best in this generation, so we have to keep leading the way. There are definitely other names in that conversation, but I think saying he’s in it and I’m in it isn’t out of the ordinary.

Garrett’s statements come in the run-up to the Week 3 matchup between Cleveland and Green Bay. This encounter marks the second clash between two of the players who have redefined the market for their position in recent months. In March, Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns, which at the time made him the highest-paid non-quarterback player in NFL history. For his part, Parsons, after a contract dispute with the Cowboys, was traded to the Packers and signed a four-year, $188 million contract, surpassing Garrett and setting a new standard for non-quarterback players. Garrett, who trained with Parsons during the offseason, revealed that they both keep in touch and that he even offered advice to Parsons during his contract dispute with the Cowboys. Myles Garrett, Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, is the first player to record 100 sacks before turning 29 since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. In the first two games of the season, Garrett is tied for the league lead with 3.5 sacks. Parsons has 1.5 sacks and is tied for third with nine pressures. Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees emphasized the importance of the offensive line being “hyper-aware” of Parsons. Coach Kevin Stefanski called him “elite”. Parsons, who has been on a limited snap count (30 in Week 1, 47 in Week 2) since the trade due to a back issue, is no longer listed on the team’s injury report, but it’s uncertain if he will remain limited. When asked if there was any reason for him to be on a snap count, Parsons replied: “I mean, training camp is four weeks for a reason. It takes a while, but the coaching staff, we’ve been working before and after every day, so we’re slowly getting there.”
