São Paulo, Brazil.

Neymar Jr., Brazilian football star, has suffered a new injury to his right thigh. This situation will prevent him from participating in Sunday’s classic between Santos FC and São Paulo, as announced by the club through an official statement.

The 33-year-old player felt discomfort during Thursday’s training, which led the medical team to perform tests. The results confirmed an injury to the rectus femoris muscle. The club has not specified the severity of the injury, but it is the same area where he suffered an edema last August, which kept him off the field for several weeks.

Neymar has faced recurrent physical problems in recent years, especially since the serious injury suffered in October 2023 with the Brazilian national team. These injuries have affected his continuity both in the club and in the national team. Coach Carlo Ancelotti has emphasized that the player must be in optimal condition to aspire to participate in the 2026 World Cup.

This weekend’s classic is crucial for Santos, who are just one point away from the relegation zone after 22 league games. So far, Neymar has played in 13 matches, scoring three goals.

The absence of the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player represents a hard blow to Santos’ aspirations of securing their permanence in the Brazilian Serie A.
