Lizbeth Ovalle one step away from a historic transfer in women’s soccer
Mexican star Lizbeth Ovalle is in advanced negotiations to join an NWSL club, in what could be a world record transfer in women’s football. A source revealed to Alofoke Deportes this Monday night.
According to another source, the Orlando Pride, current league champion, would have finalized the agreement with Tigres Femenil of Liga MX for the talented winger.
Various reports from Mexico suggest that Ovalle’s transfer could reach $2 million. The current record is held by Canadian international Olivia Smith, following her signing for Arsenal last month for £1 million (approximately $1.34 million).
If it materializes, Ovalle would become the first Mexican footballer, in both the men’s and women’s divisions, to hold the world record for a transfer.
Previously linked to Barcelona, the 25-year-old winger could join the NWSL champions, currently third in the table with a record of 8 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses.
Ovalle has two Liga MX Femenil titles with Tigres, the only club she has represented since her professional debut in 2017.
At the national team level, she has accumulated more than 50 appearances and was included in the Concacaf W Gold Cup Best XI last year. In the 2024 tournament, where Mexico reached the semi-finals, the winger stood out with a stunning goal against the United States women’s national team in a historic 2-0 victory.
