Diplomatic mission of Trump’s envoys arrives in Moscow to address the conflict in Ukraine
A private aircraft from the United States landed this Saturday at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. According to reports, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, key figures in the circle of President-elect Donald Trump, are on board, with the central goal of reviving negotiations to achieve peace in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Upon their arrival, the emissaries were received by Kiril Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s representative for economic cooperation with the United States. Dmitriev has been a recurring contact for Witkoff, maintaining constant communication over the last year and a half during various meetings held in both countries. After landing, the delegation traveled to the Kremlin by land to begin official talks.
Diplomatic efforts and new signs of dialogue
The flight, which entered Russian airspace from Finland, marks a decisive moment in U.S. foreign policy, which seeks to establish a direct communication channel with Moscow. As part of this process, fundamental security guarantees have been requested to advance on diplomatic ground.
In a parallel gesture, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Friday a provisional halt to air strikes against Russian territory. The leader urged the Kremlin to adopt a reciprocal measure that would allow for progress toward a more stable scenario.

Proposals on the table and current positions
- Trump’s proposal: The president-elect has confirmed that his envoys are carrying a roadmap aimed at ending hostilities, seeking to consolidate concrete agreements in the short term.
- Putin’s stance: The Russian leader has expressed his willingness to receive the American representatives. However, the Kremlin maintains its position of rejecting a tripartite summit unless the objective is the definitive signing of a peace agreement.
- State of negotiations: Despite this diplomatic move, the dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv has remained stagnant since February, leaving the path open for U.S. mediation to be a determining factor in the coming months.
Although Witkoff and Kushner have not visited Kyiv recently, international expectation is focused on whether this visit to the Russian capital will manage to break the impasse that has characterized the conflict over the last few months.
