Military operation in Guaviare leaves 20 dead in the ranks of the Central General Staff
A forceful military offensive in the Guaviare department, Colombia, resulted in a major blow against the Central General Staff (EMC), the largest dissident group of the former FARC. President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed that the so-called “Operation Military Azarias” left a toll of 20 members of the Carolina Ramirez structure killed.
The official report detailed by the president indicates that, in addition to the fatalities, five members were captured and two minors were recovered by security forces. Among the deceased is alias “El Tigre,” leader of the Carolina Ramírez front, whose identity was confirmed through fingerprint tests.
Seizures and weakening of criminal groups
The operation allowed authorities to seize a significant arsenal that will directly affect the operational capacity of the organization led by alias “Iván Mordisco”. The seized items include:
- 26 assault rifles.
- 4 machine guns.
- 3 pistols.
- 10 field kits.
- 13 tactical vests.
This blow affects the organization’s military, logistical, and financial capabilities and weakens its control over drug trafficking corridors. To Mordisco and his structures: the offensive continues. Change in national security policy
This military deployment is part of the new strategy of the De la Espriella government, which has prioritized the forcefulness of the armed forces over the policy of dialogue that characterized the previous administration. Recently, the president made official the breakdown of talks with various illegal armed groups, arguing a lack of will for peace on the part of these organizations.
In recent days, the Executive also proceeded to revoke the appointments of government representatives and the official recognition of delegates from groups such as the Estado Mayor de Bloques y Frente (EMBF), the Coordinadora Nacional Ejército Bolivariano (CNEB), and the Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada (ACSN).
The situation in Guaviare remains under surveillance, as authorities intensify operations to dismantle the strategic corridors used by these criminal structures in the south of the country.
