Tragic event in Cotuí: Young man dies after receiving multiple gunshots
The tranquility of the La Yagua sector, in the municipality of Cotuí, was interrupted this Monday night when a man was killed after being struck by six firearm projectiles. The attack was perpetrated by individuals who, as of now, remain unidentified by the authorities.
The victim was identified as Antonio Ismael De Paula, popularly known as “Pipilo”, 22 years old and a native of San Pedro de Macorís. According to preliminary reports from the police, the young man had a record in police files for various criminal acts.

At the time of the attack, the deceased was accompanied by another man and a woman, whose identities have not been revealed by investigators. Following the incident, agents from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRIM) arrived at the scene along with representatives from the Public Prosecutor’s Office to initiate the evidence collection protocol and gather the necessary testimonies to clarify the case.
The body was transferred to the morgue of the Inmaculada Concepción Hospital in Cotuí, where the medical examiner performed the relevant evaluations to advance the judicial investigation.
As of the closing of this edition, the authorities have not offered details regarding the motive for the crime, nor have they managed to determine the whereabouts of those responsible, who fled the scene immediately after committing the act.
