Weather forecast: Tropical wave will bring rain and wind gusts to the country
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued a report regarding the arrival of an active tropical wave, associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly. This atmospheric system will cause a change in weather conditions, generating scattered showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in various regions of the national territory during this Sunday afternoon.
Although the morning will start with a relatively stable environment and little rain, cloudiness is expected to increase significantly from midday onwards. The areas most affected by rainy activity will be Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Greater Santo Domingo, and San Cristóbal. By nightfall, the phenomenon will be concentrated mainly on the northeast and southeast coasts.
Tropical systems monitoring
Authorities are keeping the tropical wave approaching Puerto Rico under strict surveillance. According to meteorological models, the possibility of this system regaining tropical cyclone status is low, standing at just 10% for the coming days. However, its capacity to generate heavy rainfall in the northern Caribbean makes it necessary to monitor its movement.
On the other hand, a disturbance located in the Gulf of America is being monitored, which has a 20% probability of cyclonic development in the coming week, although due to its current location it does not represent a direct threat to the Dominican Republic.
Recommendations for extreme heat
Heat will continue to be the protagonist on the national scene, with maximum temperatures that will range between 34 °C and 36 °C, generating a suffocating thermal sensation. Given this scenario, the population is recommended to follow the following preventive measures:
- Maintain constant hydration by drinking water frequently.
- Use light clothing, preferably in light colors and loose fabrics.
- Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.
- Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and pregnant women, who are more sensitive to heat stroke.
Forecast for Monday and Tuesday
For the start of the week, the tropical wave will maintain its influence, causing downpours from the early morning hours along the Atlantic, northeast, and southeast coasts. During Monday morning, the rains will extend toward the Caribbean coastline, the Central Mountain Range, and the northern region. In the afternoon, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected, especially toward the border area and the Central Mountain Range.
Instability will persist on Tuesday, when a trough combines with the tropical disturbance. This phenomenon will increase rainfall in provinces such as Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde, Monte Cristi, and Independencia, where occasionally heavy downpours are expected.
