Los Mina’s Leñeras and Sabana Perdida’s Caribes remain undefeated in the 2026 Women’s TBS

The second day of the II Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament of the Santo Domingo Province continued this Friday with stellar performances. The Leñeras of the Los Mina club and the Caribes of Sabana Perdida consolidated their dominance by recording their second consecutive victory in the tournament, which is being held at the Virgilio Frías club sports center, in Ensanche Isabelita.

This tournament, which is backed by the Seaboard Clean Energy Cup, is dedicated to the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and is organized by the Basketball Association of the Santo Domingo Province (Abasado), under the presidency of William Cabral Lugo and the direction of the Organizing Committee headed by congresswoman Patricia Núñez.

Absolute mastery of the Woodsheds

Las Leñeras de Los Mina maintained their winning pace by defeating the Cotorras de Villa Duarte with a score of 91-76. The offense was led by Cesarina Capellán, who shone with a double-double of 27 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. She was supported by Patricia Sosa, who added 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Karla Aquino contributed a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Jennifer Jiménez with 13 units.

For the Cotorras side, who have yet to taste victory in this phase, Yamel Abreu stood out with 27 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, supported by Wendely Guillén with 10 points.

Caribes prevail in a close duel

In the other match of the day, the Caribes de Sabana Perdida achieved a narrow 83-81 victory over the Calero club of Villa Duarte. The win was made possible thanks to the outstanding performance of Yadira Polanco, who recorded 28 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Melany Japa was also a key player, securing a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Calero’s effort was led by Yendry Acosta with an explosive 34-point, nine-rebound performance, along with Katherine Cena, who contributed 25 points and eight assists, although it was not enough to prevent her team’s defeat.
