“El Búho” captured, alleged suspect in the murder of journalist Roxana Guzmán
In a strategic operation carried out in Mexico, federal security forces managed to capture Sergio, identified by the alias El Búho. The detainee is pointed out as a key coordinator of a criminal organization and is considered one of the main individuals responsible for the homicide of the journalist Roxana Guzmán in the state of Veracruz.
The information was confirmed by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, who detailed that the apprehension was the result of a joint operation in which elements of the Navy, the National Guard, and the state prosecutor’s office participated. Thanks to intelligence work and several weeks of tactical tracking, the authorities managed to locate the suspect, who maintained a strong criminal presence in the area.
The case of Roxana Guzmán
The tragic event occurred on June 2, 2026, when the journalist was deprived of her liberty in the municipality of Nanchital. Weeks later, her body was located, which triggered an intense judicial mobilization. To date, this process has resulted in the pretrial detention of eight people, among whom are former members of the Municipal Police.
Justice is advancing in the communicator’s case; the Congress of Veracruz approved the impeachment of the mayor of Ixhuatlán del Sureste, Raúl González Martínez, so that he may be investigated for his possible intellectual authorship in the kidnapping and murder of Guzmán.
