ETED bets on national energy stability with large-scale storage
The Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED) has launched an ambitious investment project in large-scale energy storage systems, known as BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems). This initiative seeks to strengthen the stability of the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) through cutting-edge technological solutions.
During his participation in the 2026 Government Forums, the executive vice president of ETED, Alfonso Rodríguez Tejada, highlighted that the implementation of this technology will allow for key optimizations, such as frequency regulation and black start capability. This latter function is vital, as it grants the system the ability to restart its operations from scratch following a general service interruption.
Resilience and adaptation to the new energy map
Rodríguez Tejada explained that the growth in demand and the integration of new renewable sources into the National Energy Plan require the country to have its own backup mechanisms. In critical situations, such as the passage of atmospheric phenomena, the ETED seeks to guarantee the security of the system through more autonomous and resilient management.
The electrical transmission company needs to become not just an energy transmitter, but an energy service provider.

The executive stressed that the power generation model has evolved drastically. While previously power plants were installed near fuel docks, today the grid must extend to where natural resources are located, such as photovoltaic, wind, or hydroelectric power plants.
Energy as a driver of economic development

According to the expert, the attraction of large investments, such as data centers and high-value productions, depends directly on the reliability of the national energy source.

- Digital transition: ETED assumes an active role in the management of the National Fiber Optic Network and technological modernization.
Finally, Rodríguez Tejada emphasized that there is no possible development path without a solid electricity supply, reaffirming ETED’s commitment to act as a strategic enabler in the energy and digital transition of the Dominican Republic.
