SANTO DOMINGO – The Marineros de Puerto Plata defeated the Leones de Santo Domingo with a final score of 100-93 in an exciting regular season match of the Super Liga LNB, held this Friday at the San Carlos Club.
With this victory, the Mariners secure the series against the Lions with a score of 2-0 and move up to fifth place in the standings, establishing their record at 7-7. On the other hand, the Lions, with a record of 5-10, are in seventh place, awaiting one remaining game.
The Mariners’ triumph was built on a dominant final quarter, where they limited the Lions to only 14 points, while they scored 31. The partial scores of the game were 25-30, 29-28, 15-21 and 31-14, in favor of the Puerto Plata team.
Anderson García was the standout player for the Mariners, with an impressive performance that included 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. Emmanuel Omogbo contributed 21 points, Richard Polanco added 14 points, and Andrés Fulgencio contributed 17 units.
On the Lions’ side, Gerardo Suero and Brayan Saviñón led the offense with 21 points each. José Liriano and Kerry Richardson scored 15 points each, and Ramaine Thomas finished with 12 points.
The game remained close until the last minutes. The Mariners managed to reduce the deficit to four points (78-82) in the first minutes of the last quarter. A 15-5 run allowed them to tie the score (84-84) with 3:50 left to play. The match continued with exchanges of baskets, reaching ties at 87-87 and 89-89.
Andrés Fulgencio, with a three-pointer with 2:00 minutes left, put the Mariners ahead 92-89, securing the lead until the end.
In the first half, the Lions dominated the scoreboard with a partial score of 30-25. Although the Mariners reacted in the second quarter (29-28), the home team maintained a four-point lead at halftime (58-54).
Both teams showed high field goal effectiveness. The Lions achieved 61% (20 of 33), while the Mariners recorded 55% (21 of 38). From the three-point line, the Lions had a better performance with 58% (7 of 12), compared to the Mariners’ 11% (1 of 9).
The Mariners dominated rebounds (19-15) and assists (16-9). Both teams committed seven turnovers.
