Victoria Mboko advances to the Canadian Open final

The young Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko achieved an impressive comeback to secure her place in the final of the National Bank Open. In an exciting match that extended into Wednesday night, Mboko defeated Elena Rybakina, ninth seed, with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4).

Mboko, only 18 years old and currently ranked 85th in the world, is seeking her first title on the WTA circuit. In the final, which will be played on Thursday night, she will face the winner of the second semifinal between Japanese star Naomi Osaka and Clara Tauson, sixteenth seed from Denmark.

Mboko’s performance in the tournament has been remarkable, considering that at the beginning of the year she was outside the top 300 in the world. On her way to the final, Mboko achieved an outstanding victory over Coco Gauff, the first seed, with a score of 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Subsequently, she defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro with a resounding 6-4, 6-2 last Monday.

Elena Rybakina, representing Kazakhstan and winner of Wimbledon in 2022, has nine titles on the WTA circuit, including a victory in May on the clay court of Strasbourg.

Last month, Rybakina defeated Mboko with a score of 6-3, 7-5 in Washington.
