Arne Slot Takes Responsibility After Liverpool’s Defeat to Nottingham Forest

Liverpool manager Arne Slot took full responsibility for his team’s “very bad” defeat, their sixth in seven league games, with a resounding 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. This defeat equals Liverpool’s worst suffered at Anfield in the Premier League. Murillo, Nicolò Savona, and Morgan Gibbs-White scored the goals that gave Forest their biggest victory at Anfield, inflicting the heaviest home defeat for Liverpool since they lost 4-1 to Manchester City in 2021. Chelsea and West Ham are the only other two teams in the Premier League era to have won by three goals at Anfield.

“It’s difficult to measure how bad it was, but it was very bad. Playing at home and losing 3-0, no matter which team you face, is a very, very bad result,” Slot stated.

Slot emphasized his responsibility for the current results and stated that he will not seek excuses. “I am responsible when we win, but also when we lose. This is not good enough and I take responsibility,” he added. The defeat relegated Liverpool to 11th place in the table. Slot insists they will find a way to reverse the situation, despite eight losses in eleven matches across all competitions. “Of course there’s a way out, especially with the quality of players we have. We are always looking to improve and adjust, but that’s different from doubting ourselves,” Slot explained. The coach highlighted that the team had a good start, creating many opportunities in the first half hour. However, he regretted that Forest scored on their first arrival in the area. Forest coach Sean Dyche celebrated the victory and considered it a benchmark for the club’s rise in the table. Dyche highlighted the importance of maintaining focus and tactics in the game.
