Real Madrid close to securing Gonzalo García’s renewal
Real Madrid is about to close a new contract with Gonzalo García, the revelation of the Club World Cup, according to sources close to the club.
This agreement would make García a full-fledged first-team player, following his outstanding performances in the tournament held in the United States.
The 21-year-old young footballer will be rewarded with a salary increase. In addition, the club will significantly increase his release clause to protect him from potential offers from other teams.
García is already training with the first team for the start of LaLiga, where they will face Osasuna. The renewal is expected to be made official in the coming weeks.
His rise from the lower categories is due to his performance in the Club World Cup, where he took advantage of Kylian Mbappé’s absence in the first matches to become one of the figures of the tournament.García remained in the starting eleven, even in the defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, and was crowned top scorer of the tournament with four goals.
Coach Xabi Alonso saw in young García the profile of striker he had requested since his arrival at the club. The player met expectations, which led Madrid to rule out the idea of signing another recognized striker.
The player’s jersey number is expected to be decided soon.
In the training match that Madrid played against Leganés on Friday morning, García wore the number 16, a number that on the club’s official website still belongs to Endrick. Mbappé has already used the number 10.
The match was played behind closed doors, but sources reported that Real Madrid won 4-1, with a goal by Thiago Pitarch, another of the young promises who are standing out in Madrid’s preseason.
Alonso tried David Alaba as a midfielder in a match that consisted of two 45-minute halves.
