Inter Miami’s technical director, Javier Mascherano, has emphasized the need for his team to learn to “suffer at certain moments” in order to progress and achieve better results, following the 3-3 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes.

The match, which was played in San Jose, California, saw Miami come back twice thanks to goals from Tadeo Allende, both assisted by Lionel Messi, allowing them to earn a point as visitors. However, this result marked the fourth time in the last five matches across all competitions that the team conceded at least three goals.

Inter Miami’s record in its last six matches is 1 win, 4 losses, and 1 draw.

It was a difficult match for us. So in the end, if you can score and put the match in your favor, you have to try to live some moments and try to stay calm. This is something we have to learn because against Dallas the other day, at the end of the first half against Minnesota, we conceded the second goal.

Mascherano added that the team needs to take a step forward and learn from its mistakes, since “it’s impossible” to fight for important things if the same mistakes continue to be made.

Inter Miami started the match promisingly with a goal by Maxi Falcon at 34 seconds after a cross from Jordi Alba. However, Miami’s goalkeeper, Oscar Ustari, made a mistake that allowed San Jose to equalize 91 seconds later, with Cristian Espinoza taking advantage of a poorly executed pass for Chicho Arango to score.

According to data, the goals scored by both teams in the first 125 seconds established the fastest start to a match since at least 2008.

San Jose took the lead with a goal by Beau Leroux in the 37th minute, but Allende tied seven minutes later. Ian Harkes scored San Jose’s third goal in stoppage time of the first half.

I think it’s about making individual mistakes, but… We need to know how to live each moment of the match because you start winning. Then we concede two goals. We need to play with more maturity, live and know how to suffer at times.

In the second half, Allende tied again, and Messi was close to scoring the winning goal, but San Jose’s goalkeeper, Daniel, prevented it.

Allende expressed his satisfaction with his performance, despite feeling “very normal” in the match. Mascherano acknowledged the need to improve, highlighting the importance of maintaining the team’s fighting spirit, but also of correcting defensive errors.
