Liverpool Secures Florian Wirtz in a Record Signing

Liverpool has reached an agreement to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s talented attacking midfielder, Florian Wirtz, in a transfer that could reach a record figure in the history of British football, valued at 116 million pounds sterling (136 million euros). After Leverkusen rejected two initial offers, which exceeded £126 million, an initial proposal of £100 million was accepted, along with bonuses that could add up to an additional £16 million. If all bonuses are realized, Wirtz’s transfer would surpass that of Moisés Caicedo, who joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023. Wirtz, considered one of the best offensive midfielders, will become the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, surpassing the acquisition of Darwin Núñez in 2022 for 85 million pounds. Liverpool beat out competition from teams like Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid to secure the signing of the 22-year-old player. Wirtz will join Jeremie Frimpong, former Leverkusen teammate, as Liverpool’s second signing this summer transfer window. Arne Slot’s team has also shown interest in Bournemouth’s left-back, Milos Kerkez.
